Continuing Education at UNAVETS and OneVet: May 2026 Training Sessions

Continuing education is a fundamental part of UNAVETS and OneVet’s commitment to the professional development of their teams. During the month of May 2026, veterinarians and veterinary nurses/technicians participated in various specialized courses and sessions across Spain and Portugal, addressing key areas of clinical practice and sharing knowledge and expertise.

These initiatives are part of both groups’ commitment to providing their professionals with learning opportunities that enable them to stay up to date and continue developing their skills.

Below, we review some of the main training sessions held during the month of May.

TRAINING SESSIONS IN SPAIN

Comprehensive Approach to Hypercalcemia in Dogs and Cats

On May 13, Veterios hosted a training session on the comprehensive approach to hypercalcemia in dogs and cats, presented by Pablo Reguera, Beatriz Alcocer, and Sergio Pérez.

The session provided an in-depth look into the evaluation of this condition, reviewing key aspects of its diagnosis and treatment, and offering tools to enhance the clinical management of patients.

Clinical Applications and New Therapies in Atopic Dermatitis

Ese mismo día, el Hospital Veterinario Gasteiz celebró una formación sobre dermatitis atópica, impartida por Paola Donitzi.

Durante la sesión se revisaron las principales claves para el diagnóstico y el abordaje de esta patología, así como diferentes opciones terapéuticas y nuevas alternativas disponibles para mejorar el tratamiento de los pacientes.

SOS Diabetic Patient: STOP Sugar

On May 21, Veterios hosted a new training session for veterinary nurses/technicians entitled “SOS Diabetic Patient: STOP Sugar,” presented by María Solano.

National Veterinary Nurse and Technician Congress

On May 8 and 9, I-VET hosted the National Veterinary Assistants Congress, an event dedicated to the ongoing education and specialization of professionals in the field.

The congress covered various areas related to the work of veterinary assistants and provided an opportunity for learning and sharing experiences among professionals.

TRAINING SESSIONS IN PORTUGAL

Transfusion Medicine

On May 6, OneVet Hospital Veterinário do Porto hosted a session led by Dr. Ignacio Mesa, focusing on red blood cell concentrates, plasma derivatives, and immune-mediated hemolytic anemia. The latest updates on immune-mediated thrombocytopenia were also reviewed.

The following day, May 7, another session on Transfusion Medicine took place at OneVet Hospital Veterinário da Tapada, also led by Dr. Ignacio Mesa. This session provided an opportunity to explore the use of blood components in greater depth, as well as the management of various immune-mediated conditions.

A COMMITMENT TO CONTINUING EDUCATION

The sessions held throughout May reflect the wide range of areas in which UNAVETS and OneVet professionals can continue to develop their knowledge, from internal medicine and dermatology to transfusion medicine and the care of diabetic patients.
