Our Team

The multidisciplinary team at Bierzoo Clinics and Hospital is made up of animal care specialists dedicated to the care of cats, dogs and exotic animals. Our team is made up of highly trained professionals with extensive experience in various areas of veterinary medicine. We also have support staff, veterinary technicians and assistants who play a key role in animal care and welfare, providing support in clinical and hospital care..

Veterinarians

Juan Marcos López

Veterinary Director

Marcos is a veterinary surgeon with a solid background and experience in the field. He obtained his veterinary degree from the University of Santiago de Compostela in 2002

As founder of Bierzoo Veterinary Clinics in the Bierzoo region, he opened his first centre in November 2002 in Cacabelos.

  He has developed outstanding skills in animal surgery and ophthalmology. He has maintained his commitment to ongoing training over the years, which has allowed him to perfect his knowledge and techniques. Below are some of his key achievements:

  – Diploma of Continuing Education in Veterinary Ophthalmology, awarded in 2021 by the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM).

  – Participation in the Centre for Minimally Invasive Surgery in Caceres in the area of Palpebral and Ocular Surface Surgery in 2018 and 2019.

  –In June 2023, he completed their studies and obtained the Proprietary Specialist Title in Traumatology and Orthopaedic Surgery in Small Animals, awarded by the Complutense University of Madrid. This program lasted 9 months.

– From October 2023 to June 2024, he completed the Advanced University Diploma in Dentistry and Maxillofacial Surgery in Small Animals, comprising a total of 113 theoretical and practical hours.

Jose Alberto Sabredo

Veterinary

José completed his degree in Veterinary Medicine at the University of Santiago de Compostela, on the Lugo campus.

 He started his career at Clínicas Bierzoo as a trainee in 2012 and subsequently joined the team on a permanent basis, where he continues to this day.

Over the years, José has specialised in small animal medicine, focusing in particular on veterinary dermatology. His extensive knowledge in this field makes him a valuable asset to our team, both in the management of dermatological cases and in providing support in emergency and surgical situations.

 Outside his working hours, José enjoys spending time with his family and friends. He also loves to take walks in the countryside with his loyal border collie, Max, who accompanies him on all his adventures.

Iván Núñez

Veterinary

Iván graduated as a veterinary surgeon from the University of Santiago de Compostela (Lugo campus) in 2014 and since 2016 he has been working at Clínicas Bierzoo.

From the start of his career, he has shown a great interest in internal medicine and veterinary cardiology.

On a day-to-day basis, Iván works at the Bembibre centre, providing care and attention for animals in need. He has always been committed to his professional growth, seeking opportunities for continuing education to keep up to date with the latest advances in his speciality. The centre provides him with the necessary support to attend training courses and workshops.

In addition to his passion for animals, Ivan also has interests outside the veterinary field. He is passionate about art and enjoys painting in his spare time. He also likes to travel and connect with nature, taking every opportunity to explore new places.

Gonzalo Franco

Veterinary

Gonzalo has been a member of the Bierzoo team since 2016. He graduated in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Santiago de Compostela in 2015.

 He currently provides internal medicine consultations at our centre in Cacabelos, as well as offering home veterinary services.

Gonzalo is extremely interested in diagnostic imaging and has trained in this field to provide care in the CT scanning service of the Hospital de Ponferrada. This specialisation allows him to make more accurate diagnoses and provide better care for animals.

In his spare time, Gonzalo values spending time with his family and also enjoys the beach whenever he can, as his home town is A Coruña.

Laura Morán

Veterinary

Laura graduated in veterinary medicine from the Cardenal Herrera CEU University in Valencia in 2022. During her degree, she carried out internships in various veterinary clinics and hospitals in León and Valencia.

She started her career as a veterinary surgeon working at a small animal clinic in Zamora and has now joined our Bierzoo team with the aim of continuing to expand her knowledge and explore the various areas of the veterinary clinic.

In her spare time, she enjoys the company of her family and friends, as well as nature, listening to music and watching TV series. In the future, she would like to spend time travelling the world, discovering new places and exploring cultural diversity.

Daniel Barbeito

Veterinary

Daniel is a member of the team at the Bierzoo Veterinary Hospital in Ponferrada. He obtained his veterinary degree at the University of Lugo,

here he took the opportunity to do several internships in veterinary clinics, reference hospitals and clinical laboratories.

Within the veterinary field, Daniel feels a special attraction for internal medicine in dogs, cats and exotic animals. He is interested in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and conditions affecting these animals.

In his spare time, he enjoys cinema and immersing himself in nature, either through walks or hikes.

Laura Madrid

Veterinary

Laura graduated in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Cáceres. Subsequently, she completed a 4-month placement at a Veterinary Hospital in Bologna, Italy. She is particularly interested in diagnostic imaging, specifically in the field of ultrasound. She will soon be starting a postgraduate course in Small Animal Internal Medicine.

In her spare time, she enjoys spending time in nature, going on hikes and searching for and identifying animals, as she is particularly interested in birds. She also enjoys playing the guitar and spending time with friends and family.

Celia Angoso

Veterinary

Celia graduated in Veterinary Medicine from CEU Cardenal Herrera University in Valencia. She is passionate about surgery, neurology, and internal medicine. In her spare time, she loves enjoying nature, traveling, and admiring the architecture of different places around the world.

Raúl Trujillano

Veterinary

Raúl graduated from the University of León in 2002. He has spent 22 years working in small animal practice in the city of León.

During this time, he has participated in various national conferences and courses in small animal medicine. He is currently undertaking a course in Feline Medicine with Improve International. 

 

He is passionate about nature and an avid reader, especially of fiction and history.

Gabriel Tuset

Veterinary

Gabriel graduated from the University of Santiago de Compostela in 2022. He has been part of an online consultancy project and has worked in several veterinary clinics, gaining experience in small animal medicine, emergencies, and surgery. He has a particular interest in surgery and traumatology, and is continually developing his skills by attending national conferences.

He is currently enrolled in a postgraduate program in Surgery and Anesthesia at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. In his free time, he enjoys sports such as cycling, swimming, and hiking, as well as exploring new places by motorcycle or simply enjoying the urban atmosphere on a terrace with family or friends.

Technicians and Auxiliary Staff

Esperanza Rodríguez

Auxiliar Veterinaria

Esperanza has been an essential part of the Bierzoo team since its inception in 2008. She began her professional career as a Nursing Assistant

a field she worked in for several years. However, she discovered that animals were her true passion, and trained as a Clinical Assistant in 2008.

Esperanza currently works at the Bierzoo Clinic in Cacabelos. She likes dealing with clients and particularly enjoys being able to help in the operating theatre. Her dedication and commitment are appreciated by the whole team.

Outside work, Esperanza spends her free time going out with friends and enjoying the company of her cat, Catalina. Her love and care for animals extends beyond the workplace to all aspects of her life.

With her extensive experience and vocation for animal care, Esperanza continues to play a key role in the Bierzoo team, providing exceptional service and contributing to the welfare of animals and their owners.

Silvia Cubelos

Auxiliar Veterinaria

Silvia joined our team at Bierzoo Bembibre on 14th February 2022. She has a solid academic background, having qualified as a Technician in Chemical Analysis and Control in 2002,

and as a Technical Assistant in Nursing Care in 2018. In addition, she completed the Clinical Veterinary Assistant course in February 2023.

Silvia has demonstrated a constant commitment to her career development, participating in the Hemogram Course the Keys to Reporting and Analysis given by Cuas Veterinaria, and is currently enrolled in the course entitled Canine Behaviour: Stress Reduction Techniques in the Clinic

Outside work, Silvia enjoys walking and spending time with her dog. She is also an avid reader and enjoys good times with friends, her partner and nieces and nephews.

Tania Rodríguez

Auxiliar Veterinaria

Tania has been part of the Bierzoo team since June 2022. With more than 11 years’ experience in the animal world

she has worked in pet shops and as a groomer specialising in dogs and cats. Her dedication and passion for animal welfare has led her to continue her academic training.

She is currently studying two for vocational training qualifications: Veterinary Assistant and Canine Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy. She considers the care and rehabilitation of animals to be fundamental aspects of her profession, and is committed to providing them with the best possible care.

Tania’s motivation for the animal world began with her great passion for aquatic animals, and from there, she has expanded her knowledge in various related areas. Her training and experience have allowed her to acquire versatile skills in the care and attention of different types of pets.

Her hobbies include going out into the countryside with her two dogs, Mia, a Yorkshire terrier, and Arwen, a Pomeranian. Her sense of dedication is a clear sign of her love for her profession, Tania hopes to continue working in this field throughout her career.

Luisa F. Villa

Auxiliar Veterinaria

Luisa joined our team in 2023. She has always been passionate about the veterinary field and has worked as a nursing assistant, among other things. In 2022, she completed the Veterinary Clinic Assistant course at the University of León

and continued her training with Cuasvet in advanced hospitalization. In March 2023, she began training as a Veterinary Surgical Assistant at ULE.

Luisa loves her work, especially being in the operating room and caring for hospitalized animals. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and pets.

Jacqueline González

Veterinary Assistant

Jacqueline joined the Bierzoo team in 2019. After completing her higher vocational training course in 1994, she started her professional career as an assistant in a dental clinic, where she worked for 11 years.

She then moved to a dental laboratory, where she worked for a further 5 years.

Motivated by a desire for change and her passion for animals, Jacqueline decided to embark on a new career path almost four years ago. Since then, she has found happiness working with animals and experiencing the gratitude shown by the animals and their human companions.

Jacqueline is characterised by her cheerful nature, sense of joy and inner peace, qualities that she tries to transmit to the animals she works with, almost always managing to establish a special connection with them.

In her free time, she enjoys walking in the forest, singing, dancing and, above all, sharing moments with her family, who she values greatly.

Laura García

Veterinary Assistant

Laura joined our team in 2022 after successfully completing the veterinary assistant training provided by our professionals

 Her work ranges from primary customer care to assisting veterinary surgeons, as well as checking orders and other general services.

Outside her work, Laura enjoys spending time in nature and with her loved ones. However, she dedicates extra time to her small companion, Thor, a Yorkshire terrier with whom she has a very special relationship.

Rebeca Merayo

Veterinary Assistant

Rebeca joined the Bierzoo team on 22 November 2022. She completed a Veterinary Clinical Assistant course and her internship in January 2021

taught by the same professionals she now works with. Rebeca has a passion for all things related to animal care and pharmacology, which drives her to constantly learn and take every opportunity to assist in the operating theatre.

  In her spare time, she enjoys reading, spending quality time with friends and going for walks. She loves the typical food of her home region and, above all, dancing.

Beatriz González

Veterinary Assistant

Bea is a social worker. Her passion for animals encouraged her to seek work and training in pet care in 2016. Since then, she has worked in small animal clinics, training in the field of small animal physiotherapy and rehabilitation.

She loves rehabilitation because it is so exciting and rewarding to see the progress of our pets and the bond that is created with them. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her dog, Dona, with her family and friends, and traveling.

Clara Couceiro

Veterinary Assistant

Clara has been passionate about animals since childhood, which led her to pursue a higher-level veterinary nursing course to further develop her passion and continue learning as much as possible. She joined our team at Hospital Veterinario Bierzo Ponferrada in October 2023 to undertake the practical component of her Veterinary Nursing Assistant (VNA) training course. During this 300-hour placement, she proved to be a highly dedicated student and fully met the company's expectations.

 

In June of the same year, she officially joined our team, where she carries out all necessary tasks. However, her greatest passion lies in the area of dog and cat hospitalization. She would love to start a rehabilitation course and, in the future, specialize in exotic animals.

In her free time, she enjoys hiking, birdwatching, and reading.
